Edit DaVinci Resolve by talking to an AI assistant — and it works on the FREE edition, not just Studio.

Resolve MCP Pro is an MCP server that connects Claude, Cursor, and other AI assistants to DaVinci Resolve. Every other Resolve automation tool needs the $295 Studio edition and external scripting. This one ships a small bridge you launch from Resolve's own Scripts menu, so the free edition — the one most creators actually run — works too.

It's not a thin API wrapper. It's finished workflows:

  • 🎬 Styled subtitles — drop in an SRT/VTT, get styled Text+ titles placed on the timeline at the right timecodes (drop-frame aware). Restyle them all in one call.
  • 🎙️ Podcast auto-edit — silence detection + filler-word removal ("um", "uh"), delivered as a non-destructive marker plan you review before cutting.
  • 📱 Vertical shorts — your Claude picks the highlights from the transcript; Resolve MCP Pro builds the 9:16 timelines, burns the titles, and queues the renders.
  • 🗂️ Batch render / watch folder — point it at a folder, it queues a render for every file.

Connect it to Claude Desktop, Claude Code, or Cursor and just ask.

Why it's different

  • Works on the free edition — the only Resolve MCP that does.
  • One-time $15 — no subscription, no license keys. Buy it, download, run.
  • 100% local — no footage uploads, no monthly fee, no LLM API keys on our side. Your media, subtitles, and transcripts never leave your machine.
  • 78 tools across 13 groups — media, timelines, clips, render queue, subtitles, podcast, shorts, batch.

How to set it up (under 5 minutes)

  • Download the binary for your OS and run resolve-mcp-pro --install-bridge.
  • In DaVinci Resolve: Workspace → Scripts → resolve_mcp_bridge.
  • Add resolve-mcp-pro to your AI client's MCP config. Done.

On Studio, it auto-detects the official external scripting and connects directly. The bridge works on Studio too.

Requirements

  • DaVinci Resolve 20 or 21 (free or Studio)
  • macOS, Windows, or Linux
  • An MCP-capable AI client (Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor)
  • For transcription features (podcast/shorts on the free edition): a whisper.cpp binary + ffmpeg — the setup guide walks you through it (free, local).

Privacy

Everything runs locally. We hold no LLM keys. shorts_analyze returns the transcript to your Claude, which decides the segments — nothing is uploaded.

Is this allowed?

Yes. The bridge is a normal script you launch from Resolve's own Scripts menu. It doesn't bypass any licensing and doesn't call Studio-only APIs on the free edition. DaVinci Resolve is a trademark of Blackmagic Design, which does not endorse or sponsor this product.
